Changes in packer requirements impacting cattlemen

MOVILLE, Iowa (KTIV) - There are some changes in packer requirements that will affect the information cattle feeders must provide to market their cattle.

Monday, a room of cattle producers gathered in Moville, Iowa to learn about those changes.

Some of the changes include Tyson Fresh Meats' desire for additional documentation, and improved operating procedures on the farm.

This is one of a series of meetings held across Iowa. "Our cattlemen are a valuable component of our local communities.  They live here, they raise their families and this is a testimony to our local communities that our cattlemen are producing the safest, healthiest, the most wholesome beef supply of anywhere," said Doug Bear, Director of Industry Relations, Iowa Beef Industry Council.

This meeting also gave the cattle producers the opportunity to become "Beef Quality Assurance" certified. "Beef Quality Assurance" provides detailed guidelines for proper beef cattle production and management processes.  "I think that we will just continue to gain knowledge on how to produce a safe meat product for consumers today and for the future," said Cody Williams, Beef Producer.
