The rebuilding process for the community of Pilger, Nebraska, got a jump start Tuesday night, four weeks after an EF4 tore through the town of 350 people.
The Pilger Planning Commission approved seven zoning permits for five houses and two businesses, including the Farmers Co-Op.
Representatives from FEMA and NEMA attended to answer questions.
Several people wanted to know more information about rebuilding in a flood plain. They were told they have to build one foot above ground to qualify for flood insurance. That means they can't rebuild basements in a flood plain.
Pilger's village clerk says she was very encouraged about tonight's activity.
She says it shows people want to rebuild in the community.
The planning commission will hold another meeting next Tuesday night.
