Kyle Allen leaves the game in the second inning of Sioux City's loss to Kansas City on Wednesday.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
In the past couple of weeks the Sioux City Explorers have had two starting pitchers go on the disabled list and another pitcher retired. On Wednesday Sioux City signed right-hander Kyle Allen, a 24-year-old from Florida who's been out of baseball for almost two years. His first assignment was to start the series finale against Kansas City.
Allen was in trouble in the second inning, trying to protect a 1-0 lead. Allen threw two consecutive wild pitches with runners on third to give the T-Bones a 2-1 lead.
Allen left the game after just an inning and a third with an apparent injury. Jimmer Kennedy came in to relieve but an error by shortstop Chris Escobar allowed another run to score and Kansas City led 3-1.
X's manager Steve Montgomery was ejected in the bottom of the second after catcher Todd Jennings was hit with a pitch. The umpire ruled that it was a foul ball, even though Jennings was forced to leave the game with a hand injury.
Kansas City starting pitcher Kyle DeVore held the X's to just three hits over 8.1 innings. Escobar homered in the eighth for the second X's run.
The X's fall 5-2, and their season record drops to 25-34. Sioux City is off on Thursday before starting a three game series at first place Wichita on Friday.
