An elderly Columbus woman dies in a crash after she left a carwash.
An 83-year-old woman has died after her SUV sped up as she was leaving a truck stop carwash and hit the side of a ditch in Columbus, Nebraska.
Police say the accident happened at 8:40 Tuesday morning at the Sapp Bros. truck stop.
They say Donna Wyman, of Silver Creek, was going through the carwash in her SUV, but didn't stop at the last step. Her vehicle accelerated out of the carwash, crashed through a fence, and hit the side of a ditch.
Police Captain Charles Sherer says investigators are looking to see if there was a mechanical problem with Wyman's vehicle or if a medical condition led to the crash.
