Sioux City Police investigate death of former North High baseball player

Police are investigating the death of a Sioux City man who fell from a retaining wall during a party on July 5.

Officers say 23-year-old Michael Davenport fell from the six-foot high retaining wall at a home at 2705 Douglas Street about 6:30 that evening.

Davenport hit his head and later died at a Sioux City hospital.

Davenport was North High graduate and former baseball player.

At least one other person also fell off the wall.

Police are investigating to determine whether Davenport actually fell or was pushed.

Police say alcohol was involved and they're trying to see if any criminal wrongdoing was involved.

When police are finished investigating, the case will be handed over to the county attorney's office.
