Educational program in Storm Lake moves to new facility

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) -

A program serving both the city and school district in Storm Lake now have the facelift they've wanted for the last 25 years.

The Community Education Program in Storm Lake moved in to three newly refurbished portable buildings.

The program was founded 25-years ago, and has been located in the basement of an administration building ever since.

Program coordinator Pat Fisher says the increased accessibility with change of location is something they've been wanting for a long time.

"This is the first time we've been accessible to the public, even handicap accessibility. We're in the customer service business, and it's just great that we don't have steps for them to come up into the building, and then down into the basement," Pat Fisher, Community Education Coordinator said.

The program runs most community recreation programs, rents out school facilities, and even provides computer enrichment classes and yoga classes for adults in the Storm Lake community.

Employees say the new office will help them offer even more learning opportunities.

"It'll just enhance what we have going. We do such a variety of things and offer such a variety of things for the community. We'll just continue to offer more of what we have, and try to find ways to fill niches in the community that maybe aren't being met," Patti Todd, Office Manager said.

The new office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
