Norfolk community leaders discuss the 2015 city budget

A Siouxland community begins looking ahead at how best to spend taxpayer money in the upcoming fiscal year.

The Norfolk City Council begins their official process of outlining the 2015 city budget this week. The Council has scheduled three work sessions where they'll hear from each of the different divisions that they fund.

The sessions start Tuesday, with nine different divisions making their budget requests, including the Public Library and administrative divisions. In all, the Council will meet with 31 different divisions this week before they start deliberating on what the overall budget picture will look like.

The 2014 Norfolk city budget ended up approving a total budget of around $73 million, a 5.5 percent increase over the previous year.
