SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -  There are a lot of different leagues where kids can play baseball. The organization that most people are familiar with is 11 and 12-year-olds in Little League, the same kids that play on national TV in the Little League World Series. The Headid All-Stars of Sioux City are one step away from playing on that big stage.

Headid won the Iowa Little League state title on Saturday, beating Grand View 9-6 in the championship game to finish with a 6-1 record at state. The next step is regionals in Indianapolis, where Headid will will face five other state champs from -- Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota. The regional winner will represent the Midwest at the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

"It's great with all the talent we have on the team: our hitters, our fielders, and we have a chance to go. It feels great," said Peyton Popken.

"It's pretty exciting, because what you mostly want to do when you start playing baseball is you want to try and go to the Little League World Series," said Justin Kirwan.

"We're one of the last teams still playing little league baseball right now in the country, so it's great and these kids have worked hard and they deserve a chance," said Coach Damon Clayborne.

"I believe in my teammates, I've had to trust them, and they've always come through for me," added Kirwan.

To help raise money for the trip, the Headid All-Stars are bussing tables for tips at the Pizza Ranch on Floyd Ranch on Tuesday until 8 o'clock. You can also donate at any Security Bank location, just ask for the Headid account.

Headid will play four games in the regionals, starting on Friday at noon against Minnesota. Game two is Saturday at 4:00 pm against the team from Rapid City, South Dakota.    On Sunday, Headid faces Kearney, Nebraska, at noon. The finish pool play on Monday against the team from Joplin, Missouri, also at noon.

The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals on Wednesday, August 6th. The regional final is Friday, August 8th.
