14th annual Carrie Mach memorial golf outing honors teen's cancer battle

The 14th annual Carrie Mach Memorial Golf Outing for Cancer Care tee'd off on Friday at the Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City.

Nearly 150 paid players showed up to the event.

Carrie Mach fought a nine year cancer battle and eventually lost her life when she was just 17.

Her doctor's say even when she physically felt terrible; Carrie always had a positive attitude.

The outing has raised around $38,000 this year, and more than $500,000 since it started.

Carrie's Father, Rick Mach, saysidthe he is extremely proud and appreciative of all the support.

"It's just humbling to know that I have that much love and respect in the industry we deal with,” said Mach. “Positive thing about our golfing outing is that 70 percent of our money comes back to town from vendors, contractors and consultants who work for the city.”

Money from the golf outing will go to Camp Courage, the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, Mercy Medical Center, and Hospice of Siouxland.
