Levy increase proposed to pay for June tornado damage to LENRD land
NORFOLK, NE (KTIV/US92) -
June's destructive storms are having an impacting the budget of one Nebraska's Natural Resource Districts.
The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District lost their maintenance building and supervisor house at Maskentine Lake during the June 16th tornados in Stanton County.
The district's general manager says combined with a bump in the district's Water Resources Budget, the board decided it would need to increase the budget to help with rebuilding costs. "We estimate about $650,000 to replace the shed and the house," said Stan Staab, LENRD General Manager. "We recovered some of that through insurance of course."
Staab adds they will still need about $250,000 from the taxpayers and official bids for the project will be made public next week.
With property valuations expected to rise 10%, the district is suggesting raising their levy a-tenth of a cent to 2.7 cents.
A public hearing on the increase will be held on August 28th.
