Tyson donates $25,000 to local Food Bank

The Food Bank of Siouxland is getting some big help in making sure local kids are fed when they're not in school. On Tuesday, Tyson Foods presented a $25,000 check for the Food Bank's Backpack Program. The program works to get food in the hands of students at risk for hunger.

Linda Scheid of the Food Bank said they're very excited about the gift and support from Tyson.

"When you think about the children that are caught in circumstances that they don't have any control over, but we can help. And so we assemble these food sacks and we deliver them to the schools," said Linda Scheid from the Food Bank of Siouxland.

And with the help from schools, students in need can take a backpack full of food home with them every Friday. With over 2,000 sacks going out each week, the Food Bank helps provide young Siouxlanders with nutrition and energy through the weekend.
