Siouxlanders came together Saturday to raise awareness for those living with disabilities.
The Inaugural Great Iowa Walkabout took place at the Chris Larsen Park Shelter in Sioux City.
The event is sponsored by Crossroads of Western Iowa, a non-profit organization that provides residential services for the intellectually disabled. Nearly 50 people participated.
Organizers say that's a good start, but they hope that number will grow in the coming years
"I would love it if we could reach out to the community and let more and more people know that we're here in Sioux City," said Ric Miller, the event organizer. "This will hopefully grow just like RAGBRI."
Crossroads of Western Iowa has five group homes in Sioux City, but they expect to add at least two more by the end of the year.
