Northwest Iowa plant begins a new era for ethanol

EMMETSBURG, Iowa (AP) -

A Northwest Iowa plant will begin full production of cellulosic ethanol next month.

Poet DSM announced that its Emmetsburg plant, dubbed Project Liberty, will hold its grand opening on September 3rd.

The plant uses corn cobs and other cornfield leftovers to make ethanol.

The $250 million plant will produce up to 25 million gallons annually.

It's among the first facility of its size in the country to make ethanol from plant material.
