NORFOLK, NE (KTIV/US92) -

The future of whether or not a Siouxland library gets some major upgrades could be up to the residents of the community.

The Norfolk City Council will be voting Monday night on whether or not to include a temporary half-cent increase to the town's local option sales tax to renovate and expand the Norfolk Public Library on the November ballot.

Library staff have been working on expansion plans for months.  The plan calls for adding almost 16,000 square feet to the building on 4th Street with an estimated price tag of about $6.5 million.

If approved, the sales tax increase would be in effect for three years.

Library officials polled the public recently about the likelihood of supporting a sales tax increase, and 59 percent of those polled said they would.

The city council will meet Monday night at 5:30 p.m. in Norfolk.
