ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

In a unanimous vote, the Sioux County Board of Supervisors approved construction of six new chicken broiler confinements. Each building is about 33,000 square feet and will house 40,000 chickens. That's a total of 240,000 birds. One supervisor said livestock generates a lot of income in Sioux County.

"They understand how livestock generate property tax and a lot of income for their local and state governments," said Dan Byl who raises chickens in Sioux County.

So far, the county said it's received no complaints by neighbors about the new confinement operation. Construction will begin in early September and is scheduled to be finished in January.
