Officer-involved shooting in St. Louis, Missouri

ST. LOUIS (KWWL) - A police officer was involved in a shooting Tuesday in St. Louis, about three miles from where Michael Brown was shot and killed, police confirmed to NBC News.

According to NBC affiliate KSDK, the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said on Twitter that suspect brandished a knife at police.

According to NBC, the 23-year-old man had taken energy drinks and a package of pastries from a nearby convenience store. Dotson told reporters the man was "acting erratically, walking back and forth, up and down the street."

The chief said officers repeatedly ordered the man to drop his knife, and the man answered "Shoot me now. Kill me now." He said the man moved toward one of the officers and came within 3 to 4 feet.

"One of the witnesses described it as a suicide by cop," Dotson told NBC News.
