Green Gables restaurant closes after 85-years in Sioux City

A longtime local eatery appears to have served its last meal.

If you go to the Green Gables restaurant, at 18th and Pierce Streets, you're greeted by a sign on the front door that reads, "after 85 years, the Green Gables restaurant is closed... we have loved being a part of your lives."

The Gables started in 1929. Owner Albert Seff thought the city needed a local sandwich shop. His sister, Rose Krueger, was the cook and came up with the recipes.

No explanation was given for the closure, and our efforts to contact owner Jennifer Vollmer were unsuccessful.
