Threatening statements made against school children in Charles City, IA

Charles City, IA (KWWL) -

A Charles City man was arrested this weekend after police say he got drunk and made threatening statements against school children.

Loren Todd Saxon, 48, of Charles City, was arrested Sunday and charged with terroristic threats, a felony, and second-degree public intoxication, a serious misdemeanor.

According to Charles City Police, officers were called to the Best Budget Inn in Charles City for a report of an intoxicated individual sometime on Sunday.

When they arrived, officers say they found Saxon "heavily intoxicated," according to a release from the Floyd County Attorney's Office. He then made unspecified threats against school children.

Saxon was taken to the Floyd County Jail, where he remains on a $6,000 cash-only bond, the maximum bond allowed.

The Floyd County Attorney's Office said if Saxon is released from custody, they would alert Charles City Schools officials to ensure all necessary precautions would be taken.

No further information was released.

Saxon has previously been arrested for public intoxication, as well as arrests for domestic abuse, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts, according to Iowa Courts Online.
