Late night fire guts house on Sioux City's west side

Posted:
Late Thursday evening a fire broke out at a home in Sioux City's west side.

Fire crews were called around 11:30 to 200th block of Main Street for a structure on fire.

Several trucks arrived to find the house at 216 Main engulfed in flames.

Witnesses say the flames were huge.

"They were above the trees they were touching the house next door. I was a pretty big fire. We were all surprised," said witness Taylor Smith.

The Sioux City Fire Department says no one was in the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

They say that it took about 15 minutes to get the fire under control and about another hour to put out hot spots.

We have a fire of unknown origin in a house that has no utilities to it. The owner said it was secured. His sister lived next door. Nobody was supposed to be in the house. So we have fire prevention bureau on scene trying to see how it started." said Kelly Hanson, Acting Sioux City Assistant. Fire Chief.

The house has been red tagged.

The neighboring buildings did not suffer great damage.
