Norfolk, NE 911 dispatch receiving too many non-emergency calls
911 dispatchers are there for the public when needed, but Norfolk's dispatch says they've been getting too many non-emergency calls lately.
City officials say that during this past weekend's power outage, a number of residents dialed 911 to report that their power had gone out, as opposed to their utility company. Dispatchers say there were so many calls coming in Sunday morning that legitimate emergency calls couldn't go through.
Police Capt. Don Miller says residents should instead report power outages to NPPD. In addition, anyone who has a non-emergency concern should call the Norfolk Police Department's non-emergency line at (402) 644-8700.
Capt. Miller also says anyone who does have an emergency for 911 should be prepared to tell the address of the emergency, the phone number they are calling from, and details about the emergency
