Fonda, IA pulling out all the stops for a massive RAGBRAI party
Around 630 people live in the town of Fonda, Iowa, but on day two of RAGBRAI, that number will increase by about 30,000, according to RAGBRAI committee members.
"One of the best things about this RAGBRAI, for me, has been that I've gotten everybody in a small town to agree to come into one location," says Alex Leu, Fonda Police Chief and co-chair on RAGBRAI Committee.
Near the intersection of 2nd and Main Street in downtown Fonda. It may look a bit empty now, but come Monday, the area will be filled with music, food and friendly faces.
"All right where we're standing," says Leu. "This will be ground zero."
You'll find a number of vendors, a DJ playing music, a beer garden and an inflatable bounce house, just for the adults.
"We know you're not staying forever, but it's a good place to recharge and head out because you've got about 20 miles till your next stop," says Leu.
With that thought in mind, Fonda's RAGBRAI committee came up with a theme... The Oasis.
"Fonda is this big line of trees that sticks out of this sea of cornfields and there you're going to be in this oasis," says Leu.
The RAGBRAI party in Fonda starts Monday morning at six. After that, the cyclists head to Fort Dodge, Iowa.
