A local man is dead from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident just east of Le Mars on Friday.
Plymouth County Sheriff's Office say a 2005 Chevrolet was heading westbound on Highway 3 and a 1997 Freightliner truck was heading eastbound.
Officials say both vehicles were rounding a curve, when the Chevrolet veered in to the eastbound lane and was hit by the semi.
19-year old Evan Niebuhr, of Le Mars, Iowa, was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he later died.
The driver of the Freightliner Semi, 44-year old Jeffrey Knudson of Akron, Iowa was uninjured.
Niebuhr was a 2015 graduate of Gehlen Catholic High School in Le Mars.
Niebuhr's family said he was on his way home from Iowa State University, where he was a sophomore student, when the incident occurred.
The accident is under investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office.
A sign that reads "Gas Powered Motorcraft Prohibited" at Lake Yankton may say something different soon.
