Some elementary school students went to new heights to find a cure for cancer.Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Elementary School hosted its annual cancer awareness event on Oct. 14.This year, the students and staff raised money for a former teacher - Annette Elgersma - who has been battling with cancer for the past five years.Money donated by the children and staff were placed in a fish tank and once it was more than half full, the principle of the school, Cathy Jochims, was lifted up onto the school's roof.Balloons were released to honor cancer survivors, cancer fighters, as well as those who have fought hard, but lost.
