Sioux City man arrested for assaulting police officers, attempting to use taser

A Sioux City man has been arrested after police say he assaulted several officers and tried to use one of their own tasers on an officer.

Twenty-eight year old Markese Smith has been arrested on three counts of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, one count of Disarming a Peace Officer and one count of violating a no contact order.

He is currently being held in Woodbury County Jail on a $14,000 bond. His next court date is Oct. 26.

According to court documents, on Oct. 16 law enforcement were called to a residence where Smith was in violation of a no contact order.

When Smith was told he was being arrested, he began to fight with the officers, pushing them to the ground before striking, kicking and headbutting them.

One of the officers attempted to use a taser on Smith before he grabbed it and tried to use it on the officer.
