Ryan Tegtmeier led Morningside in scoring last season.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -
Two seasons ago, the Morningside men's basketball team went 25-9 and went to the NAIA national tournament. Last year, a young team went 11-18. The Mustang hope the roller coaster goes back up this season.
The Mustangs return eight letter winners, including four starters. Last year's leading scorer, Ryan Tegtmeier is back after scoring nearly 15 points per game.
Morningside head coach Jim Sykes also added four transfers that should contribute right away. They include 6'7" Tyler Borchers, who was a first team all-state pick at LeMars in 2015. He redshirted at South Dakota last season.
South Sioux grad Alex Borchers also comes in from USD, where he ran track.
"Taking some time off, it's been hard to get my rhythm back but I've been getting more and more confidence every day and I hope I can continue to get better as the season goes on," said Alex Borchers.
"Playing with new people is something that takes time, getting each other to gel together, we've just been working on that," said Tyler Borchers.
"Alex is going to give us tremendous depth at the point guard position," said Sykes. "Obviously Tyler's going to be a force inside, he can play multiple positions. We're excited with what both of those guys have to offer."
Morningside opens the season Thursday, November 27 at Saint Mary. The home opener is November 4.
