SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -

The Iowa Air National Guard will have a groundbreaking in Sioux City Wednesday for a new 37,000 square-foot facility at the 185th Air Refueling Wing.

The new facility will be a one-story building constructed at the 185th Air Refueling Wing, located at the Sioux City Airport.

Lt. Colonel Kris Aldrich, 185th Civil Engineer said the new facility will replace two existing buildings which are scheduled for demolition.

“The building that houses our communications or IT function was originally constructed as a jet engine repair shop. Our base clinic and dining facility building was originally the base supply building. These buildings are 44 and 60 years old, and are becoming increasingly expensive to maintain,” said Aldrich.

When complete the $12.4 million building will house the unit's clinic, food services, and communications function, accommodating nearly 500 people.
