MEMPHIS, Tenn. (KTIV) -

There's no question Iowa State raised the standard this season.

Three wins over ranked opponents, two of those coming over top-five foes. Don't forget the four road wins - and it may has well been a fifth Saturday in the Cyclones win over Memphis in the Liberty Bowl.

Iowa State beat Memphis in their home stadium, 21-20, for their first bowl win since 2009. It's just the fourth bowl victory in Cyclones history.

Iowa State's eight wins this season comes after a stretch of four-straight years with three wins or fewer.

It was the senior leadership - Joel Lanning, Allen Lazard and others - that have set the stage for the future of the program.

"This is what we wanted as a senior class, to go out like that," said Lanning. "These seniors have been through everything the last five years, and we never quit. We wouldn't want it any other way, to go out last second like that."

"I'm really going to miss these guys," said Campbell. "I choked up last night in our team meeting because this group is a group that's as special as any group of young men than I've been around. It's really been an honor to coach them. I think sometimes, we think that we change their lives. But what I love about coaching still, is that we get the opportunity to be taught by our seniors."

Saturday was the final game for 21 Cyclone seniors.
