ORANGE CITY, IA (KTIV) -

The Northwestern College baseball team went from worst to first in the GPAC standings. The Red Raiders will open up the NAIA national tournament on Monday.

Among the starters, second baseman Matt Martin is second on the team with a .340 batting average. He leads the Red Raiders with 53 hits and 37  RBI's, while starting all 46 games. Martin had three more hits in Northwestern's win over Midland in the GPAC tournament final on Wednesday, including the game-winning single in the 8th inning.

The senior from New Mexico credits part of his success to an awesome mustache.

"It's just a thing to attract the ladies," said Martin. "It's just a thing out here, having fun, twirl it up every day for the game. It's just awesome. Everyone loves it so, just keep doing it."

Northwestern plays Taylor of Indiana on Monday at 11:00 a.m.
