SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -

The Northern Iowa 'Panther Caravan' stopped in Sioux City Monday night.

The UNI basketball programs have relied heavily on in-state players. Ten of the 17 men's players last year were from Iowa. And head coach Ben Jacobson has A.J. Green coming in next season. He's a top-100 recruit nationally who's from Cedar Falls.

Nine of the 15 women's player are from the state. The school's two head coaches say that's by design.

"Our first high school player to commit to us after we had gotten the job was Ben Jacobson from Sioux City East," said UNI coach Ben Jacobson. "Benny ended up having a tremendous career. His jumping aboard when we first got there, before we had done anything, was a big deal to us. It's the first place we start when we're recruiting."

"Iowa's extremely important to us. It will always be important," said UNI coach Tonya Warren. "We will always recruit from in, out."

The UNI women have made three NCAA tournaments in their history, all since coach Warren arrived.
