It's the 55th year for one of Siouxland's signature celebrations.
River-Cade 2018 is approaching and events starting this Friday.
River-Cade leaders announced their 2018 Parade Marshal earlier Wednesday.
This year it will be Frank Thorp IV, a retired United States Navy Rear Admiral and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.
"His service to our nation and work on behalf of the USS Sioux City, make him the ideal fit to lead this year's parade. The 2018 festival showcases activities throughout much of July, and give Siouxlander's the opportunity to participate in a variety of events, " says President of River-Cade, Lora Vander Zwaag.
24 events will be going on this year.
The parade will take place Wednesday, July 18th, beginning at 6:00 pm.
Other events throughout the week include a cribbage tournament, bowling tournament, and a hot dog eating contest.
