A South Sioux City, Nebraska man, who was acquitted in the shooting death of his wife, last year, must now undergo a mental health treatment program.
Forty-one-year-old Bei Sheng Chen was found not responsible by reason of insanity, in the death of his wife, 33-year old Mei Huang, last September outside of the Law Enforcement Center in South Sioux City.
In Dakota County District Court, Thursday, a judge ordered Chen be placed in the Forensic Mental Health Department of the regional center in Lincoln, Nebraska. In the filing, the judge wrote that, based upon evidence at the trial and the evaluation of a psychologist, Chen is dangerous to himself and others, and will be dangerous in the foreseeable future without continuing participation in an appropriate treatment program.
Vaughan has set a July 23rd hearing regarding Chen's status.
He also set a July 1, 2019 deadline for an evaluation and any potential future treatment.
