SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Tony Thomas went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs, Leo Vargas added four hits and Wichita beat the Explorers on Wednesday, 10-5.

The Wingnuts pounded out 13 hits, but 12 of them came from four players. Logan Watkins had three hits and Zach Nehrir added pair of knocks. Watkins and Nehrir each had an RBI.

Wichita (47-29) jumped on X's starter Keith Picht, tagging Picht for six runs in the first two innings and chasing him from the game in the third. Thomas hit a two-run double in the first inning, while Watkins and Nehrir each added doubles in the second inning.

Thomas hit a home run in the fourth inning, his league-leading 19th of the season, to give the Wingnuts a 7-1 lead.

Sioux City (56-20) got as close as 7-4. Dexture McCall was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. McCall's two-run triple got the X's within three runs.

But Wichita got three more runs in the eighth inning to seal the game. It's the first time that the Explorers have been swept this season.

Sioux City starts a four-game series with Kansas City at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday. The T-Bones are coming off a sweep of Texas, and are now just 6.5 games back of the X's in the South Division.
