Siouxland organization helps families considering foster care or adoption

UNDATED (KTIV) -

Siouxland organizations are seeing a large number of children who are in need of a good home, whether it's foster care or adoption.

Lutheran Services of Iowa is trying to do something to improve the situation.

The organization currently is holding classes, for Native and non-Native families, who are considering becoming foster or adoptive families.

The classes help prepare potential parents in areas such as how to work with the Iowa Department of Human Services to help reduce the number of children who need a good home.

"If you're going to make that decision, you should probably do it very well informed because it's a pretty big decision, not only for the family but for the child coming into the home," said Ansley Griffin, Foster/Adoption Recruiter.

Griffin said Native families especially are in need right now.

The second orientation will be held from 5 - 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, at Saint Luke's Lutheran Church, located at 2039 St. Aubin Street, in Sioux City.

If you would like to learn more about this orientation, please contact Amanda Krause at Amanda.Krause@LSIowa.org or 712.263.9341.
