Lawyer Wants Suit Against Spirit Lake, Iowa School Board Dismissed
A lawyer for the Spirit Lake, Iowa, school board has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit against two board members.
A motion filed in Dickinson County Court shows attorney Steve Avery has asked the judge to dismiss the case because one of the plaintiffs,Jeanne Lathrop, has moved out of the district. Avery argues that state law requires five residents of the district to bring suitm and he says that's no longer the case.
The lawsuit seeks to remove board president Beth Will, and vice president Ann Goerss. Their actions were called into question after the resignation of Spirit Lake High School principal Jedd Sherman. Court documents allege they violated sections of Iowa law... violations said to be "numerous", "blatant", and "continual."
