Morningside women use big second half to surge past Pioneers
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Morningside women’s basketball team has high expectations this season, after a national semifinal appearance last year. The Mustangs struggled out of the gate against tough competition losing to St. Xavier and Olivet Nazarene in their first two games of the season.
With no easy games on the Mustangs schedule the girls had to bounce back against the 11th ranked team in the nation in MidAmerica Nazarene. And bounce back is just what Morningside did.
After a slower start the Mustangs were trailing at the half by 4. But Morningside did not quit, quickly gaining those four points and an extra 20 back in the final two frames to walk away with an 84-64 victory over the Pioneers.
Sierra Mitchell and Sophia Peppers led the Mustangs in scoring with 17 points each. Peppers also led the Stangs in rebounds alongside Taylor Rodenburgh as both had 5 boards. While South Sioux City native McKenna Sims led in passing with 7 assists for Morningside.
