SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A woman from Granville, Iowa has been arrested for allegedly abusing her child.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Christina Fivecoate-Champion is facing two counts of child endangerment that caused serious injury.

The sheriff’s office says Fivecoate-Champion was arrested following a report from Orange City Area Health stating an 11-month-old child was brought in for a dislocated elbow. After investigating further, authorities determined the child had several additional fractures to their arm.

Fivecoate-Champion, the child’s mother, initially reported the child fell in a crib, with their arm falling between the crib’s rails, causing the injury. But a medical evaluation performed at a children’s hospital in Sioux Falls revealed additional injuries that had occurred within the weeks before the dislocated elbow. Authorities say this indicated a pattern of abuse.

The sheriff’s office, after receiving reports from medical professionals involved in the case, determined the injuries to be inconsistent with Fivecoat-Champion’s explanation, leading to her arrest on Nov. 14.

Following treatment and discharge from medical care, the Iowa Department of Human Services placed the 11-month-old into foster care.
