SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Sioux City police said one person was sent to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident in downtown Sioux City Thursday morning.

The accident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. at 6th St. and Nebraska St., by the Warrior Hotel. The accident involved a minivan and SUV; the SUV was rolled onto its side and crews had to cut the roof off to access the driver. The SUV’s driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Sioux City Police say the accident happened when the SUV failed to stop for the red light at the intersection. Police say when the SUV entered the intersection it was struck by the minivan, causing the SUV to tip onto its side.

Police are still trying to determine if a medical issue with the driver of the SUV contributed to the accident. So far, they have ruled out impairment due to intoxication.

Law enforcement had to redirect traffic away from the scene. Within an hour, both vehicles were towed away and the scene was cleared and cleaned up.

Currently, no charges have been filed for this crash.
