LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) - Plymouth County, Iowa, deputies have arrested an Ireton, Iowa, man on a warrant following a fatal accident nearly a year ago.

Friday morning, deputies arrested 51-year-old Chad Vlotho, and booked him into the Plymouth County Jail on charges of “homicide by vehicle - operating under the influence”, and “OWI 1st offense.”

His arrest follows a crash, at the intersection of County Road L-12 and Quest Avenue just south of Remsen, Iowa, back on November 26th, 2020.

Authorities say a motor home was traveling north on L-12, when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the road and rolled several times. 23-year-old Jace William VanDenberg of Ireton, Iowa, died in the crash. Five other people were treated at local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

An affidavit, which was filed by the responding deputy sheriff, Matt Struve, six days after the crash, indicates Vlotho was driving the motor home at the time of the crash. Struve said he took “multiple statements” indicating Vlotho was driving the motor home. In the affidavit, Struve said Vlotho denied being behind the wheel of the motor home.
