Elks Lodge celebrates thanksgiving
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Elks Lodge in Sioux City expressed gratitude with a Thanksgiving dinner for veterans and their families.
The dinner started at Noon on Thursday. Volunteers and helpers came in earlier in the morning to prepare. Rides to the event were offered to all local veterans.
For 23 years, the Elks Lodge has kept a tradition of serving veterans on Thanksgiving Day. The pandemic did not allow for a gathering in 2020.
I’m actually thankful for the opportunity to be here,” says Josh McClure, Elks Lodge Knight, “Elks is an extended family to us, so to be able to take time on this holiday, to come down and make food for other people, and to see how grateful they are, for having this opportunity, having a place to eat.
“A lot of them are struggling to provide for themselves,” adds McClure, “So to be able to do something so simple as to make a meal for somebody, it really means a lot to us.”
McClure says Elks Lodges across the nation are there to support veterans any way they can.
