LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) - It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The Plymouth County Fairgrounds are transformed into the Pioneer Village Christmas Wonderland with around 70 decorated Christmas trees, live entertainment, horse-drawn lighted wagon rides and, of course, lots and lots of Christmas lights.

“I think to me, this is a lot, the true meaning of Christmas. Because a lot of kids don’t have anything and don’t get to see this stuff. Everything is free of charge here. They can come out, they can have all the goodies and all the things they like. And get to see Santa Claus and get a stuffed animal. And there’s no charge for any of it!,” said Bonita Davison, Coordinator for the Pioneer Village Christmas Wonderland.

Folks could also enjoy popcorn balls, cookies and cider and hot chocolate served throughout the buildings of this Christmas wonderland.

Bonita Davison is the coordinator for the Pioneer Village Christmas Wonderland, and she said it takes time to get everything put together.

“A lot of it I do with myself and my family helps me. And we usually, I think I started the first of October this year and I just finished the other day! It just takes a lot of time. But I just take my time and do it as I go,” said Davison.

The Pioneer Village Christmas Wonderland has been going on for around 30 years. Davison has coordinated the event for the last 15.

After postponing last year because of COVID she said they’re glad to be back in action.

“It’s just so good to see all the people. And we had a lot, a lot of people out here and I think everyone enjoyed it,” said Davison.

One long-standing tradition... continuing to help spread Christmas joy this holiday season.
