Siouxland retirement home holds remembrance ceremony for Pearl Harbor 80th anniversary

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Dec. 7 marks the 80th anniversary of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. The event that launched the US into World War II.

A remembrance ceremony was held at Whispering Creek Retirement home Tuesday afternoon. The events had an American Legion speaker, the presentation of the colors, prayers, music and a 21 gun salute.

Leaders with the American Legion emphasized the importance of continuing to remember this day each year.

“Dec. 7 is a day that lives in infamy. We believe it’s important to remember this day as an important day in our history and what it meant to the country for sacrifice and unity and coming together. So, we try to remember it every year,” said Rene Lapierre, American Legion Post 697 commander.
