Muskies sweep shootout to take second straight against Omaha
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Sioux City Musketeers did not think it would take more than an overtime period to take down the Omaha Lancers but as it so happens their thinking was wrong.
Omaha started the scoring off when Cam Mitchell got one past Alex Tracy to take a 1-0 lead in the first period. But, the Musketeers would respond when Owen McLaughlin found the net later in the first. Then Omaha picked up their final goal of the night, when with five minutes left in the first Jared Wright lit the red light to make it 2-1 Omaha.
The final goal in regulation came when Nick Pierre got on a break and snuck one past the goalie to tie the game at two.
Then a period passed as did an overtime period without another goal scored setting up a shootout.
First Alex Tracy stopped an attempt from Garrett Wright. Then Luke Antonacci came up with a big goal to put the Muskies up 1-0 in the shootout. Tracy responded with another stop setting up Bennett Schimek with a game winning opportunity. And Schimek did not disappoint finding the net and winning the game for Sioux City 3-2 in a shootout.
