SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - While the Morningside Mustangs were gearing up for their national championship game, they received some great news.

Quarterback Joe Dolincheck has been announced as the NAIA player of the year this season. This is the second time Dolincheck has received this award winning last in 2019.

The Senior from Bellevue, Nebraska, earned the award by completing 67 percent of his passes. While, throwing for 4,378 yards and 42 touchdowns. Dolincheck also took care of the ball only throwing nine interceptions on the year.

The Senior has been a staple of the offense ever since he got the starting role in 2019. This season Dolincheck averaged 336 yards per game while also averaging just over 3 touchdowns a game on the season.

Dolincheck is the fourth Mustang to receive the award and the third Mustang quarterback.

“I was hoping because I obviously put in the work for it all year long,” said Dolincheck. “It was my personal goal, not a team goal but there’s many great players in the nation and so I didn’t have any expectations. It was a goal in mind and I was hoping when it came out that my name was called. The hard work kind of shows and I’m glad to have the teammates on my team to help me get to where I am today.”

Because of the extra Covid year, Dolincheck does have one year of eligibility left and he confirmed today that he will be back next season.
