DURHAM, NC (KTIV) - It’s day three in Durham, North Carolina for the Morningside football team. The Mustangs hit the field for practice number 3 earlier in the afternoon. But in the morning, they took a break from football and went out to the ballpark.

Morningside went over to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Bulls are currently the triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. The players and fans got a full tour of the ballpark from the press box to the field and even the clubhouse.

If you’ve seen the 1988 Kevin Costner film, Bull Durham, you’re very familiar with the Bulls. Costner portrays catcher Crash Davis who’s number-8 is retired along with Chipper Jones and Joe Morgan.

The Iconic Bull is out in left field, and just like in movie, if a player hits the bull on a home run, they win a steak. During the tour, the Mustangs learned a lot about the history of the Durham Bulls.

“I’ve played baseball a lot throughout my life and I’ve been to a couple of baseball games and this is a really cool stadium,” said senior Caleb Schweigart. “The history of it was really interesting.”

“It’s pretty cool,” said senior Tyler Anderson. “I’ve never actually been to a minor league park before so just kind of getting out and experiencing new things is kind of fun.”

“Being out on the field and seeing our logo and everything was cool,” said junior Chase Carter. “Seeing all of the buildings around and imagining all of the home runs and stuff is cool.”
