Sioux City Professional Firefighters Local 7 make holiday donation
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Christmas came a few days early for some Siouxland organizations. That’s because Sioux City Professional Firefighters Local 7 Union presented holiday donation checks Friday.
The local 7 gave more than $14,000, which were divided between five different organizations this Friday morning.
The Gospel Mission, The Food Bank of Siouxland, Community Action Agency of Siouxland, Noah’s Hope, and the Salvation Army each received a donation check from the Union.
The money is raised during the year through fundraisers like a golf tournament, or from the monthly Union dues that go into the community service fund.
Neal Paulson, a firefighter for local seven, said the union likes to be a part of the process for helping these organizations, help the community.
“Service is kind of ingrained in a firefighter. So, we like helping out people in the community. Whether it’s on the job or off the job,” said Paulson.
Kim Wilson, Chief Development Officer with Community Action Agency of Siouxland, says they’re grateful to the union.
She said before today’s check presentation, they also helped the organization with a coat drive, collecting 8 full boxes of coats for children and adults.
She added the money they received today also will go toward buying more coats.
“They are so amazing. They are true heroes day in and day out and so to have them in our corner and for them to really help out other local nonprofits is so amazing,” said Wilson.
