DURHAM, NC (KTIV) - The Morningside Mustangs are national champions! The Mustangs won a close battle over Grand View in an all Iowa NAIA national championship game.

This is how the game played out, Grand View got the scoring started when Johnny Sullivan connected with Anthony Turner on a 30 yard TD pass to make it 7-0. Morningside responded with a nice drive capped off by an Anthony Sims 8 yard run, to tie the game at 7.

Sims then added another touchdown this time from a yard out to bring the score to 14-7 Mustangs. The Vikings would respond with a 6 play drive ending in an Ali Scoot Touchdown from a yard out and the game once again was tied at 14.

Then Sullivan connected with Spry and just like that it was 21-14 Grand View. However Morningside used the time that they had left in the half and constructed together a 13 play 75 yard drive, leading to a Joe Dolincheck connection with Austin Johnson to tie the game at 21 going into the half.

Grand View opened the scoring in the second with an Ali Scott touchdown run to make it 28-21. The Vikings would not score another point all game.

The Mustangs would tie the game at 28 with one final Anthony Sims touchdown run. Before a Drew Bessey interception set up what would be the game winning drive for Morningside. That winning drive would be completed with a Joe Dolincheck pass to who else but Reid Jurgensmeier to make it a 35-28 ballgame.

Chase Carter would tack on a field goal for the Mustangs before it was all said and done. Leaving the final score 38-28 and leaving the Mustangs with their third NAIA national championship in 4 years. Making Morningside just the fifth team to do so.
