Dec. 22: South Dakota reporting over 7,000 active COVID-19 cases, 239 people hospitalized

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Active COVID-19 cases remain above 7,000 in South Dakota as of Dec. 22, 2021.

According to the South Dakota Department of Health, there are 7,102 active COVID-19 cases in the state with 239 people hospitalized. Of those hospitalizations, 13 of them are in Siouxland’s South Dakota counties. Currently, Yankton County is reporting 10 virus-related hospitalizations while Bon Homme and Lincoln are reporting 2 and 1 hospitalizations respectively.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, South Dakota has reported 175,249 virus cases. Of those cases, 165,697 of them have recovered while 2,450 South Dakotans have died due to complications connected to the virus.

South Dakota is reporting 67% of the state’s five and older population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 55.3% of that population has completed its vaccine series.
