Dec. 29: South Dakota reporting over 7,800 active COVID-19 cases
(KTIV) - Active COVID-19 cases remain above 7,000 in South Dakota as of the state’s latest report on Dec. 29, 2021.
According to the South Dakota Department of Health, there are 7,871 active COVID-19 cases in the state, an increase of 769 since last week’s report.
The state says there are currently 237 people hospitalized due to the virus, which is down from 239 last Wednesday. Of those hospitalizations, 11 of them are in Siouxland’s South Dakota counties. Yankton County is reporting 10 virus-related hospitalizations while Lincoln County is reporting 1.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, South Dakota has reported 178,395 virus cases. Of those cases, 168,050 of them have recovered while 2,474 South Dakotans have died due to complications connected to the virus. Twenty-four deaths connected to the virus were confirmed in the last week.
South Dakota is reporting 67.42% of the state’s five and older population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 55.55% of that population has completed its vaccine series.
