SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A spokesperson says the Iowa State Patrol will be out in full force over the holidays, dealing with both enforcement and potential accidents caused by cold weather.

One focus for troopers... helping motorists that get stranded, or have accidents cause by the slick conditions they weren’t prepared for.

Often, motorists tell the Iowa State Patrol that they didn’t know road conditions were poor or they were going to fast.

“They didn’t know that the roads were that bad. So we have the 511. And usually we update that every half hour to an hour. The DOT does and us state patrol communicating with them to let us know what the roads are like,” said Karen Yaneff, a senior state trooper.
