South Dakota’s active COVID-19 cases have surpassed 14,000

(KTIV) - Active COVID-19 cases have nearly doubled in the last week in South Dakota, according to the state’s latest report.

According to the South Dakota Department of Health, there are 14,355 active COVID-19 cases in the state, an increase of 6,484 since the state’s Dec. 29 report.

The state says there are currently 305 people hospitalized due to the virus, with 18 of them reported in Yankton County, 3 in Bon Homme County and 2 in Clay County.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, South Dakota has reported 198,467 virus cases. Of those cases, 170,592 of them have recovered while 2,520 South Dakotans have died due to complications connected to the virus. Forty-six deaths connected to the virus were confirmed since Dec. 29.
